WHAT IS AUTUMN OLIVE?
Autumn olive (Elaeagnus umbellata Thunb.) is a species of the race Oleaster and it is widespread in Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, Nepal, Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. Autumn olive or japanese oleaster, is losing the leaves in winter, has a multi body bushy shape, flicks the free nitorgen in the air into the soil, and grows fast. Autumn olive can grow in foremost acidic soil, but also in many different soils too, it is used with its silver leaves and deep red fruits as a foliage plant and in the fight against erosion and also as a nitrogen source for walnuts. The consume as functional food is spreading out more and more because its lycopene content is 18 times higher than of tomatoes.
HOW TO USE AUTUMN OLIVES?
Non requests, it can grow on unproductive land, Ideal for reforestation, a good foliage plant.
Seeds, replication with steel and seperation. The autumn olive is naturally replicing and spreading itself with its seeds and under soil organs. A plant in the outturn age produces 0,9-3,5 kg fruits and 20000-540000 cores. The fruit outturn of the autumn olive begins generally with the age of 2-3 years and the complete fruit outturn is in the age of 3-4 years. For the germination of the cores, it needs cold and humit folding and for the optimal germination of the corse, it needs to be folded minimum 16 weeks in 10-20 °C temperature.
